You may have come across the Mercato Metropolitano food markets dotted around London. The most recent one was completed in Ilford and has been assembled on a neglected parking lot. Together with Webb Yates Engineers its been designed in such a way that it can be taken down, reconfigured, and re-assembled elsewhere on other potential sites in the future, cleverly creating a flexible and sustainable design.
Mercato itself is a fantastic initiative, offering small, artisanal restauranteurs access to their own facilities, fostering entrepreneurship and local culinary talent, and also benefiting the local communities by providing educational classes for kids and a variety of entertainment for adults.
